Getting to hear people’s stories—where people have been, how different we are, and how we are all just interconnected in different ways—is very fascinating to me. This work has given me the gift of realizing that life is really precious.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There isn’t a right or wrong time; it’s totally up to you. However, past participants have told us they were glad they recorded when they felt well and felt most like themselves. No matter when you record, the result is always the same: your family and friends will view the video as a gift they can open whenever they need you.

  • Yes, thanks to our generous donors.

  • It depends. Many participants choose the “Share Your Story” filming days for convenience. If you have timing, mobility, or immune challenges, you may want to consider the Legacy Your Way option.

  • If time is precious, we can move fast. Our team has recorded legacy sessions at home, in hospice, and in hospitals with as little as 24 hours’ notice. Just indicate the urgency on your application form, and we’ll prioritize making it happen as quickly as possible.

  • Once your eligibility is verified, you will be assigned a Legacy Coach and scheduled for a virtual “pre-filming” meeting. During that meeting, we will review all logistics, what to expect, the types of topics you would like to cover, and what tone you would like to set.

  • Sessions are relaxed and guided. Our Legacy Coaches gently prompt stories so nothing feels forced during your 1-hour recording.

  • Your specially trained Legacy Coach and professional videographer.

  • Most people feel more relaxed and open if family are not at their filming. However, if you’d like to have a loved one present for support, we are happy to accommodate them.

  • We handle all the details and cost; you bring the stories. Your Legacy Coach will provide you with detailed information to make your recording as easy and personal as possible. Helpful considerations:

    • Consider speaking to family or friends about what stories they hope to hear you tell on film and write these topics/questions down.

    • Do you have a favorite quote, poem, or saying that you would like captured (or even a short children’s book that you always read to your children when they were young that they would love to hear you read again)?

    • Would you like to leave direct messages to your family/loved ones on the video (recorded as if you were talking directly to them)?

    • Start gathering digital files of any special photographs you would like to include.

  • Your video footage is professionally filmed and edited, with background music and select photographs (if you provide those to us in advance or on the day of your session). The result is a fully customized legacy video ready for you to watch and share within approximately eight (8) weeks.

  • Final videos are shared only with you or approved family contacts through a private link, which can be downloaded to personal desktops and devices. We do not share your final, complete video externally with anyone other than those required for the production and editing process.

  • Absolutely, but your loved one must be aware and in agreement to participate prior to applying, and they must sign a consent form prior to filming.
